EUROPEAN WEEK AGAINST RACISM
Events in Co. Meath

21st – 27th March 2011

To highlight the reality of racism and the role all of us living in Co. Meath can play in addressing it.

Introduction
What is the EU Week Against Racism? The European Week Against Racism centres on International Day Against Racism and events during the week and focuses on people coming together to show their opposition to racism and celebrate the diversity of Europe.

What is International Day Against Racism?
The 21st March was declared International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination by the General Assembly of the United Nations as a reaction to the murder of 69 anti-apartheid demonstrators in Sharpeville, South Africa, in 1960. www.unitedagainstracism.org

The Key Objectives of the EWAR in Co. Meath are:

  1. To coordinate a range of anti racism initiatives including events and activities which seek to build solidarity within and among communities in Co. Meath
  1. To reflect on the different forms of racism that exists, and provide a space to review the impact of racism on all communities in Co. Meath
  1. To illustrate the many faces of diversity within Co. Meath using audio visual mediums for information

Get Involved in the Week! We are encouraging organisations and individuals working in Co. Meath to organise events to coincide with the week in their local area. These events should be in line with objectives of the week itself and can be advertised on a webpage set up for the week on www.cultur.ie and this page will have links to all the organisers’ websites as well, being updated regularly. Contact sinead@cultur.ie or on 046 9093120.
